Son Musicality Workshop
This workshop will be host in two sections, Wednesday June 17th & Wednesday June 24th to give students hands-on experience with a variety of instruments so they can develop a deeper, practical understanding of how each part contributes to the whole of a piece. By learning the roles, timbres, and rhythmic patterns of different instruments—melody, harmony, bass, and percussion—participants will better hear and anticipate the musical structure beneath their steps. When dancers recognize where each instrument fits in the arrangement, they gain clarity about phrasing, accents, and transitions; that musical awareness naturally guides footwork, timing, and spatial choices, making movement more intentional and connected to the score.
For those that own their congas or any set of percussion instrument as Claves, Campanas, Bongos or Güiros, your are welcome to bring them.
David is an award-winning musician and composer, winning First Place in the National Youth Jazz Competition in Havana, Cuba three years consecutively (2006-2008). As an educator with experience in both classroom and private instruction, David teaches jazz piano, voice, percussion, music theory, songwriting, and music production. He has developed curriculum for private school music programs, including ensemble direction for band and choir. He also has experience teaching music from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8 as outlined by The Ontario Curriculum.
Founder of DLM.Music Production, David works with local and international artists including Ernesto del Alma (Canada), Irene Miguel (UK), Adonis Puentes (BC), Cassava Latin Band (Canada), Joel Sierra (Mexico), Mario y su timbeco (US), and Edglish (Azerbaijani).
David has a Bachelor of Music in Composition from Higher Institute of Art (Havana, Cuba) and a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Toronto.
